love, a simple 4 lettered word that means so much
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 9:39 PM

love seems to be in the air these days.. already 4 people i know, (all guys) are in love. or infatuated i'm not sure. love, this simple 4 lettered word is so powerful that it can cause so many rollercoaster emotions. "Love is euphoria, happiness, tranquility, anxiety, panic & despair all wrapped up together." why so.. simply becuz of reciprocated & unreciprocated love. "To love someone is an agony, but to be loved, is a blessing." reciprocated love is associated with fulfillment and ecstasy. Unrequited love with emptiness, anxiety, or despair. but all in all, love is a whole different dimension altogether that happens when u least expects it. i myself am no victim of it either.. and i've never been happier but i wont go into details as yet.

well, back to the 4 people, 1, my cousin who flew over to vancouver to further his studies.. happily announced his attachment with a russian girl over there.. despite the huge age gap, he firmly claims how mature she is and all that. and of course, not wanting to burst any bubbles, i went along with him and congratulated him. what else could i do? and another cousin also got attached. not that he announced to me though. i just found out. through my means and secret spies. haha about time too. he's quite a good catch if i may say so myself. not that i'm advertising for him or anything but well.. anyways, good for him.

and then the 3rd one, a close buddy of mine who recently went for his university orientation camp. met a girl there. fell in love. confessed his love. all within 5 days. i'm so stunned i have to hold my jaw from droppin to the ground. not one to easily get into relationships, i was surprised at his umm swift actions. and i'm not exactly sure if thats what he should have done. i'm happy for him. yes definitely. but u know what they say about whirlwind romances right. i mean like where's the part about getting to know her well enough to be comfortable and feel right about it before making that first move? u don't know a person well, u get so impulsive and throw caution to the wind and what happens in the end? u find out that she's actually not the person u thought she was. u start feeling like u want out. ur relationship turns sour. not trying to generalize this. i'm sure not EVERYONE goes through the same thing but well, pretty much most people. so thats what i told him. just be careful. cant tell him to take it slow since he already went right in. i just hope that girl's worth it and that she'd reciprocate or something.. who doesnt want a happy ending eh?

and the last one. another close buddy. and he too, fell in love durin his camp. whats up with orientation camps. cupid's lurkin there? ok maybe love's too strong a word. i shall say, he likes someone he just met too. but he didnt have the guts like the other guy to go ahead and make his feelings known so blatantly. and thats becuz he didnt have the confidence to do so. thinking that girls usually don't like him. right. pretty rich of him to say so, seeing as out of the group of us, he's the only one with multiple ex girlfriends. but anyway, the camp did nothing to boost his self esteem it seems and thus led to him just lurkin around his phone wondering if he should text her. well, i hope all ends well with him too anyway. have already done my bit as a friend in encouragin him haha.. sometimes all people need are just a little push but well, i shall save my matchmaking for another time when things are more settled. haha :P

the main point of today's blabberings is about another girl. that last buddy i was talkin about, he had this "orientation partner" that the program set up as in like each guy would be partnered with a girl. *told u cupid was lurking around* and huuray. he ended up being partnered with one really pretty girl. but alas, its not to be. turns out the girl was already attached. and had no intention of makin new friends. as there was a program scheduled to let the partners interact, my poor friend spent the time tryin to make small talk, only to have the girl answer back in mono syllabuses.. and on the bus ride together out, that girl had a sudden brainwave as to how to spend the time. she called her boyfriend. and chatted with him all the way. leaving my poor friend to stare into space and wondering why lady luck wasnt smiling on him whereas the people all around him were doing their best to be friendly with their partners, be it if they're already attached or not.

whats up with her right. such attitude. making others' lives miserable. its not like my friend had a choice to partner u and cant u just make friends. yes u're attached but that doesnt mean u have to be so rude towards him right? he was just tryin to be polite for goodness sake. blarrgh. anyway, what he said after tellin me the story really struck me. he said "after this lesson, i've learnt that being pretty isn't everything. u can be really pretty but if we don't have chemistry and don't connect, it would be pointless" true. very true. beauty is only skin deep. yeah sure being pretty or good looking sure does have several bonuses.. but chemistry is the most important element. like i've always said. if 2 people cant even connect or relate to each other, there's no spark. no life in the love.

i'm sure if asked to choose which guy/girl u would wanna date, one would immediately say "the hunk! or.. the babe!" people who are physically attractive. who doesnt like attractive people? but think about it. physical attractiveness wears off. and physical attractiveness can be fake, with all that plastic surgery technology comin up. yeah having a macho guy that looks good, would be nice. and i would look good walking beside him too. but in time to come, after upteen times of seeing ur guy flirting easily with other girls or just putting so much effort just to look good and neglects u in the process etc, u start to wonder, is this the guy that i wanna spend the rest of my life with? ( well maybe u're not lookin for that one person to spend ur life with but ultimately thats the goal right?) do i want to be with someone who's more concerned about how he looks? do i wanna spend my life with someone who can so easily sweep another girl off her feet? maybe its not his fault for lookin so good and havin girls coming after him but am i secure enough to feel that way? another point to note too, in cases of attractive people, its pretty sad too in a way. why i say that is.. just imagine. if u were lucky enough to be born attractive. with billions of suitors fallin at ur feet, how are u so sure that they like u for who u are rather than liking u just becuz u look good?

of course, not every good looking person is like that. there're always exceptions right. all i'm sayin is looks aren't everything. whats inside is what counts. and of course, above all, chemistry is most important. i would be lyin if i said that i was the kind of person who say that i don't care about looks and just look at personality. like all humans, i'm no saint. i look at both. personality yes. important.. but so are looks.. and for me, i'd think that so long as the person is good looking enough for me, i'm happy with that. as i've said earlier, beauty fades sooner or later.. thus i would end here by saying that if you've found that one person who has both the looks and personality AND u share a certain chemistry between the two of u, keep him/her by ur side and never let them go.

i know i'm keeping mine by my side. =)
